I’ve been MIA for a little over a week, but I have had a very good reason! The home office that I have begged for is finally finished (for the most part)! I’ve hounded my sweet husband for almost 6 years for my own space in our house for all my crafts and sewing materials and recently added that I NEEDED a home office as well with my TPT business. Well, he has been listening and he either finally got tired of my begging or decided it was the right time to reward me. I’m so excited to share my space with you today! If you follow me on social media, you are probably already tired of my pictures. Sorry!
Now that is a HUGE improvement in my opinion and I think you will agree! Such a change! I want everyone to know first of all that we are by no means floating in money, so we had to do this project on a budget. The paint came from Walmart it is ColorPlace Clear Bottle Blue. It is gorgeous in person and it photographs well too. The flooring is laminate from Lowe’s and my husband put it down by himself. It went down super easy (took him about 2 days). The entire room is furnished with IKEA cabinets and tables. I love IKEA!
Let’s start from the top! Here’s my $3 chandelier I purchased from Habitat for Humanity. All it needed was a little spray paint and a little bling!
When it came to the cabinets and tables, the entire family pitched in. Here’s our start to finish look! If you’ve never been to IKEA, you have to pull all your items from the warehouse and they are in flat boxes that you have to put everything together from. I was able to follow the simple directions and help put things together. I’m not handy at all, so they are super easy directions! Yep, even the countertops came from IKEA!!!
I wanted to make sure there were spots for both my boys to work on crafts or for my sewing machine. So we left leg spots on the wall (plus it was a little cheaper). We added a wall light and I covered hot pads with fabric to make a spot of notes (love notes make me smile).
To dress up the walls a bit, I started with Pinterest. There are so many FREE wall art printables out there! Just search and you will find just what you need! I did! I spray painted my $1 frames gold and they make the space really come together. I also picked out a few other items from Hobby Lobby when their wall decor was 50% off! I spent a total of $45 on all the wall art! The rack and buckets are from IKEA. Perfect for storage and then the pin holder is actually a knife holder from IKEA. I spray painted it gold as well.
Another Pinterest idea that I stole was using clipboards to hold wall art. I love the idea of being able to change out the quotes without having to open a frame each time. Super cute and CHEAP!
My desk area is actually two different pieces. I have a table and then a regular desk with two pull out drawers. I love the L shaped look, but the legs of the table really dress up the space.
Gold was a major accent color in my office. I’m lucky my hands aren’t permanently dyed gold!!! Spray paint was my BFF through this project, but I think those little touches really made the room come together. Here’s a look at a couple of other spray painted items. Yes! The floor lamp was hot pink, but not anymore!!!
I am so proud to call this space my own and I hope it inspires you to find an area of the house you can claim as well! Thanks for reading!
